The Great Lakes regions are unique in the sense that our weather is different from most other parts of the country. Lake Ontario is so large that it creates its own weather systems. The most common term used when describing lake-born systems that are responsible for rain and snow is “lake effect.” A good example of this would be the following scenario: Syracuse, NY might not get any snow in a 24-hour period but Pulaski, NY might get two feet of snow in the same 24-hour period.
